P.A.C.E.
Preparation, Anticipation, Communication, Execution
PREPARATION
Long Term: train for the specific skills required for success
Immediate: get to the right spot mentally and physically
Mentally: set goals, compare results to goals, modify actions to get results closer to goals
Physically: beat the ball to spots, balance forward, control your momentum through the ball
ANTICIPATION
Long Term: learn to think like the other team, see what they see open, and to practice making
key decisions often so they become part of your reflexes
Immediate: evaluate opponent's/your options and surroundings, and commit
Physical Options: read the opponent's body position, ball position, blockers, etc.
Surroundings: move to the best spot based on their your read, and assume the ready position
Commit: Use reflexes to counter the opposition’s best option, and the ability to take away the opposition’s second best option; remember that skin grows back but points don't
COMMUNICATION
Long Term: talk automatically, reflexively, and effectively
Immediate: use the best options in your team's communication system each play
Self-Ready Comments: ready, read, and commit/go
Team Communication: sound bytes with team meanings for synergy (so that the team as a
whole is greater than the sum of its parts), team-defined
EXECUTION
Long Term: develop mental focus thru repetitive practice of reflex/action/reaction-based drills
Immediate: set goals, make a complete effort, and evaluate for your next action
Set Goals: know what you want to have happen
Complete Effort: commit mentally and physically to making it happen, finish the play right
Evaluate: what went right, what 1 change would make my next result closer to my goal?
START OVER, BECAUSE THE NEXT PLAY ALREADY HAS TOO!!!
